The word ‘devoted’ is a strong word.

In Acts 2 we are told that the very first Christians “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” They were singularly focused. They weren’t just casual observers. They didn’t listen with one ear while the other was listening to the footy score. No time for distractions here. Why not? Because what the apostles were telling them mattered. The apostles told them things they needed to hear. Like what exactly? That the living God raised Jesus from the dead. That Jesus is Lord of everyone. That God has a purpose for everyone’s life. That without Jesus everyone is under God’s condemnation. There is just so much God says through His apostles.

You know what I pray for most of all? That God’s people today would be as devoted as God’s people were in the very first church.
Wouldn’t that be something.
