When I was a child, the shows I watched on tv were very different than the shows on tv today. Tom and Jerry, Kimba the White Lion, Top Cat, Marine Boy, and Roger Ramjet are just a few of the kids shows that come to mind. But the show that was always a favourite of mine was Road Runner.
Road Runner, a ground cuckoo actually, was always one step ahead of his nemesis Wile E. Coyote. No matter what Wile E. Coyote did, Road Runner was always ahead of the game. Every plan to trap him, every attempt to stop him in his tracks ended in abject failure. But did Wile E. give up? Not on your life. And every time he tried he inevitably failed.
The Bible says this, “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”1 Peter 5:8
The devil’s a bit like Wile E. Coyote. He’s certainly not likeable like Wile. E, and he’s certainly no joke. But just like Wile. E, the devil never gives up trying to catch his prey. The devil is always seeking someone to devour. And so what should we do? The Bible tells us that we are to be “sober-minded; and watchful.” Always be aware of his schemes. Don’t let your guard down. Not even for a moment. Be mindful of what you watch, where you go, who you listen to, what you think. Do that, and just like the Road Runner, you’ll always escape his snares.
