I’ve been reading Paul’s letter to the church in Colossae and one thing stands out. It’s the assertion Paul makes that all you need is Jesus. Again and again Paul comes back to it. There were certain teachers in the church trying to persuade people to follow them. The problem was they were leading people away from Jesus. In their mind, Jesus was a part of the gospel but there was more to it. Paul says, actually there isn’t.

All you need is Jesus. Therefore follow Him.

Don’t get fooled into believing there’s more to it. You want life? Follow Jesus. You want to know truth? Follow Jesus. You want to walk a path that pleases God? Follow Jesus. You want to be free of guilt? Follow Jesus. Listen to Jesus, follow Jesus, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. That is essentially Paul’s message. What Jesus says to do, do. Where Jesus says to go, go. What Jesus says to embrace, embrace. In other words, all you need is Jesus.
