Have you been captured by just how surprising God’s grace is? Think of the apostle Paul. The last man in the world you would expect to receive Jesus as Lord is Paul. He wanted to eradicate even the memory of Jesus from the face of the earth. If that means rounding up every last Christian and throwing them in prison, that’s what he’ll do. He really does hate Jesus that much. And what happened? God’s grace intervened. Paul the hater became Paul the evangelist. God’s grace really is that surprising. God’s grace has the power to open closed eyes and soften hard hearts. Even the eyes and the heart of a man like Paul. And even the eyes and the heart of a man like me. I think that’s the most surprising thing of all. I know what I’m like. I know how blind I can be. I know my heart. And God, in a way that only He can, showered upon me the same grace He showered upon Paul. How surprising is that!
